World renowned sculptor, Glenna Goodacre, was born in Texas and received a fine arts degree from Colorado College. While raising a young family in Texas she painted portraits until she was encouraged by Santa Fe art dealer, Forrest Fenn, to begin sculpting. After further study at the Art Student’s League in New York, Glenna eventually moved to Santa Fe where she currently lives and continues to sculpt in her beautiful high-ceilinged, light-filled studio.
Glenna’s name is synonymous with her larger than life-size public bronzes such as the Vietnam Women’s Memorial, Sidewalk Society, seven foot portrait of Ronald Reagan at the Reagan Library and the newly completed massive Irish Famine memorial soon to be dedicated in Philadelphia. Her bronze likeness of Sacagawea graces the recently minted US gold dollar coin. But her many admirers and collectors are equally drawn to her sensitive portrayals of the human figure from children at play through the wisdom-etched faces of the elderly.
The work of this remarkable sculptor can be enjoyed at museums such as Brookgreen Gardens, the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, the Cowboy Artist of America Museum, the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art and Woolarock Museum. Glenna is also a member of and has received numerous awards from artist organizations such as the National Sculpture Society, the Allied Artists of America, the National Academy of Design and the Knickerbocker Artists. Articles on her work have appeared many times in magazines such as Southwest Art, Art of the West, Wildlife Art, Art & Antiques, Veranda, Cowboys & Indians and Art-Talk. Goodacre is also featured in numerous books on American artists and the subject of Glenna Goodacre: The First 25 Years.
