Ken Auster’s contemporary, impressionistic oils have been described as spontaneous, energetic scenes that are the essence of the moment. While exploring the boundaries between nature and man-made objects, Auster paints cityscapes, landscapes, and interiors with the passionate intensity of an expressionist and the intellectual understanding of a highly skilled composer.
Recognized as one of America’s leading painters, Ken Auster has attracted the attention of collectors throughout the world with his fresh, juicy oils and dynamic brushwork.
A native Californian, Ken Auster grew up with his feet firmly planted in the surfing culture. Studies in illustration at California State University, Long Beach, led to an early career in silkscreen and graphic design. By the mid-1990’s Auster left the process-burdened medium of printmaking to immerse himself in fine art and the immediacy of painting in oil.
Auster is a signature member of the Plein Air Painters of America, a founding signature member of the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association, and a signature member of the California Art Club. He consistently walks away with gold medals and first place awards at juried exhibitions and his work is collected by patrons across America.
